Flournoy Battery is a luxury apartment community along Windy Ridge Parkway, adjacent to Atlanta’s Battery development, which is home to Truist Park and the Atlanta Braves. Following Atlanta’s bid to attract Amazon’s widely publicized HQ2, the process compelled Atlanta and cities like it to confront their strengths and weaknesses. “It encouraged discussions about what qualities made their cities distinct,” and from this came a new event called “Defining Atlanta” from the Atlanta Business Chronicle. In the latest installment of the series, panelists discussed the biggest opportunities for growth, threats to growth, and who is being left behind. One takeaway was that Atlanta’s architecture is getting more imaginative and attracting top design talent.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Library Association (ALA) have selected five libraries to receive the 2022 AIA/ALA Library Building award for excellence in architectural design. Award recipients demonstrated design achievement, including a sense of place, purpose, ecology, environmental sustainability, and history. Winning projects include the Adams Street Library in Brooklyn, New York, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C., which offers a new sense of purpose in the age of digital transformation.
