After more than two years into a global pandemic, the pursuit of health and happiness has been at the forefront for many Americans. Back in 2019, two thirds of adults globally reported being happy, yet in mid 2020, a study by NORC at the University of Chicago found people in the US were the unhappiest they’ve been in nearly five decades. “While happiness is subjective, psychologists have found close relationships, an enjoyable job or pastime and helping others are general pillars to being happy.” So what factors contribute to creating some of the healthiest cities in the World? Balanced lifestyles, the local environment, obesity levels and pollution rates were analyzed from 48 nations to determine the top 10 healthiest cities according to the Healthy Lifestyle Cities Report 2022. Take a look at the list of the best cities to live in below and what people say makes them happy and healthy.

Flournoy Battery is a luxury apartment community along Windy Ridge Parkway, adjacent to Atlanta’s Battery development, which is home to Truist Park and the Atlanta Braves. The 4-acre development will offer nearly 300 apartments, a rooftop terrace, approximately 7,500 square feet of retail, and a public greenspace / plaza. The project is scheduled to open this Fall and MillerClapperton will fabricate and install 8,700 square feet of Metal Composite Material.

Following Atlanta’s bid to attract Amazon’s widely publicized HQ2, the process compelled Atlanta and cities like it to confront their strengths and weaknesses. “It encouraged discussions about what qualities made their cities distinct,” and from this came a new event called “Defining Atlanta” from the Atlanta Business Chronicle. In the latest installment of the series, panelists discussed the biggest opportunities for growth, threats to growth, and who is being left behind. One takeaway was that Atlanta’s architecture is getting more imaginative and attracting top design talent.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Library Association (ALA) have selected five libraries to receive the 2022 AIA/ALA Library Building award for excellence in architectural design. Award recipients demonstrated design achievement, including a sense of place, purpose, ecology, environmental sustainability, and history. Winning projects include the Adams Street Library in Brooklyn, New York, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C., which offers a new sense of purpose in the age of digital transformation.
