Welder

REPORTS TO: Metal Shop Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

The position is for individuals interested in metal fabrication. Welding parts per the shop drawings, operating machinery, bending, punching, and/or shearing of metal products as instructed by supervisors. Produce a variety of parts, all of which must meet the dimensional, structural, and visual specifications of the shop drawings. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Create quality welds according to part drawings
  • Inspect completed welds for quality and integrity
  • Prepare products to be welded by grinding, drilling, sawing, and plasma cutting steel and aluminum parts
  • Finishing parts as required using a wide variety of metal finishing tools
  • Set up and maintaining welding equipment
  • Responsible for the proper packaging, identifying, and moving of all finished products to the proper location
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Work on other types of metal fabricating equipment as needed

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must always work safely
  • Must always wear approved safety equipment (PPE)Be able to read a tape measure to the 32nd of an inch and be able to read calipers
  • Produce parts accurately by using shop drawings
  • Must be able to use a wide variety of hand tools required in metal fabrication
  • Must have attention to detail and be able to follow directions
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Lifting of 75 pounds, bending over, kneeling, and other physical activities are required for this position
  • Must have experience with Mig and Tig welding both ferrous and non-ferrous metals ranging from 040 – ¾” thick
  • Current welding certifications a plus
  • Must be a self-starter and able to learn multiple tasks quickly
  • Must be reliable and punctual to work
  • Must have the ability to weld and finish with minimal warpage and distortion
  • Must be willing to work overtime, at times on short notice

  • Have the ability to work with a wide variety of MillerClapperton employees including production employees, project managers, and drafting employees

  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills are necessary due to the demands of the position
