#1 TOP DESIGN DESTINATIONS TO VISIT IN MARCH



Some of the most important fairs of the year for art and design fans are happening this month.  Instead of a traditional spring break, Architectural Digest  (AD) has put together a list of can’t-miss industry happenings from around the world.  It’s an especially big month for New York, as there are three noteworthy events including the famed Armory Show (celebrating its 25th anniversary) and AD’s own Design Show.  See more cities and events here. 
 


#2 BUILDING OF THE YEAR AWARDS FINALISTS



What are the most inspiring buildings of 2019?  The Building of the Year Awards from ArchDaily are an important reflection of architectural trends from around the world.  They tear down established hierarchies and geographical barriers by showcasing projects that are democratically-voted by our peers in the design industry.  By participating in the process, the ArchDaily community decides what it means to push architecture forward.  To see this year’s finalists and place your vote, click here.  


#3 AIA BILLINGS STRENGTHEN TO 12-MONTH HIGH



According to The American Institute of Architects (AIA), 2019 is off to a good start with strong architecture firm billings that strengthened in January to a level not seen in the previous twelve months.  Firms in both the South and West regions reported stronger firm billings, following some softness near the end of 2018, while firms in the Northeast reported steady growth for the fifth consecutive month, following a period of declining billings during the first half of 2018.  Read more about the impact of the government shutdown and architecture services employment numbers here.




#4 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

Capitol View Nashville
Capitol View is a multi-use urban district located in the heart of downtown, Nashville.  The project includes offices, retail shops, restaurants, multi-family residential units, hotels and an urban activity park, with a trailhead for the Nashville Greenway. The HCA office tower is sensitive in scale to the pedestrian-friendly area, while the detail and material selections reflect the unique industrial character of nearby iconic landmarks.  MillerClapperton was selected to fabricate more than 85,600 square feet of Metal Composite Material panels for the project.

#5 CURRENT PROJECT

Fairfield Area Library
The new Fairfield Area Library is located on a 10-acre site near the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center and is expected to open this Fall.  The two-story building features a modern design with an open lobby, classroom and meeting space, group study area, a digital media lab, and a drive-up window where patrons can pick up or drop off materials.  For this project, MillerClapperton is currently fabricating 12,400 square feet of High Pressure Laminate panels.
