As a comparatively young country, the United States has a rich and diverse history.  From early Spanish settlers in Florida to the Russian traders of Alaska, each one of our 50 states has its own history to tell.  By looking at the country’s original structures and early buildings, ArchDaily traces our history by mapping the oldest intact buildings in each US state.  From churches to cottages, and even grand mansions, these historic sites offer a glimpse into the early days of the various regions of our country as they were settled.  Click here to see more.
 

At the 2019 Design Indaba Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, Niger-born architect Mariam Kamara shared how she is shifting perceptions of her home country.  In 2014, she founded atelier masomi, an architecture and research firm, to tackle a wide variety of public, cultural, residential, commercial and urban design projects.  “Her work is guided by the belief that architects have an important role to play in thinking spaces that have the power to elevate, dignify, and provide a better quality of life.  She believes that design is as crucial as politics and economic development.”  Read more about her work and what it means to put people at the forefront of practice here.
