For the past five years, Architect Magazine has been asking thought leaders navigating the design and technology space to make tech-focused predictions for the new year. 2020 was certainly unique in that we faced a global pandemic that continues to affect nearly all aspects of society. Atmosphere is Tempe’s newest student community that is scheduled to open this Fall for the 2021-22 school year. The 20-story high-rise will offer fully furnished, modern studio- to four-bedroom apartments for a total of 252 units, plus two floors of amenity space, which includes an open-air rooftop Skydeck and pool, fitness center, and collaboration spaces, plus street-level retail. MillerClapperton is fabricating 13,080 square feet of Metal Composite Material for the project.

Modern libraries have become so much more than a holding place for books. They now serve as anchors for the community by offering cultural programming, education, children services, public spaces, and more. As we’ve become more dependent on these institutions, it has also become important that the design of these buildings be sustainable. According to gb&d magazine, the best libraries should stand the test of time, built with sustainable building materials that are also durable. They list their favorite green libraries that incorporate clever solutions such as daylighting and energy-efficient HVAC.

ArchDaily examines the logic and philosophy behind the great pioneers who influenced architecture before us. LeCorbusier, perhaps the most famous modernist architect, once said: “A house is a machine for living in.” He had a very scientific and rational approach when initiating his creative process and believed that “to create architecture is to put in order.” Frank Lloyd Wright on the other hand was known for the introduction of organic architecture, which “is a structure that has specific rationality behind it’s development, connected to its space and time.” The creative method of Wright dictates basically an organic approach to any project.
