The National Center for Civil and Human Rights reopened in November 2025 following a major expansion that fulfills the vision of its founders and strengthens its role as a national destination for education, reflection and action. The 24,000-square-foot expansion brings the Center’s footprint to 65,000 square feet, and transforms how visitors experience the ongoing story of courage and human rights in America and around the world. The project included two new wings, six new galleries, three classrooms and interactive experiences, while doubling the event-space area. Additionally, a new roof terrace offers skyline views and a symbolic reminder of the city’s place at the heart of the civil rights movement.
MillerClapperton fabricated and installed Metal Composite Material (MCM) panels and High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) Panels. To connect the new expansion to the original building, MillerClapperton also removed some of the original panels, preserving as many as possible to be reused on the new building.
