Continuing the Conversation

For many years, my father, Ted S. Miller, wrote a weekly blog that became widely read throughout the AEC industry.

I still remember buying him a copy of “Blogging for Dummies” and encouraging him to give it a try. I believed he had insights worth sharing and that writing might be a way to reach people beyond the conversations he was having each day.

Over time, his blog developed a loyal following throughout our industry. In fact, one of my favorite stories involves my parents traveling in Paris. While standing beneath the Eiffel Tower, a gentleman from Canada approached my dad and asked, “Are you Ted Miller? I read your blog every week.”

I’ve always loved that story.

Not because my dad became well-known, but because it demonstrated the power of consistently sharing ideas over time.

Recently, I reached a milestone of my own. For the past year, I’ve written a weekly Monday Memo to our employees. What began as an effort to improve communication became a discipline I genuinely look forward to each week.

As I reflected on that milestone, I found myself thinking about Daddy’s blog and the role that consistent communication has played throughout MillerClapperton’s history.

It also made me realize something.

Perhaps it’s time for me to contribute my own voice to Friday5.

Starting this week, you’ll find a short note from me in the Friday5 newsletter.

Some weeks, I’ll share an observation. Other weeks, it may be a lesson learned, a leadership challenge, an industry perspective, or simply something I’ve been thinking about.

As Daddy would say, “The best blogs write themselves.”

Whatever the topic, my goal is to offer something practical, thoughtful, and worth a few minutes of your time.

Friday5 will continue doing what it has done so well for years. This is simply my opportunity to contribute to a tradition that has meant a great deal to our company and, in many ways, to my family.

I’m grateful you’re here, and I look forward to the conversation ahead.
