On March 17, someone bought the first virtual reality house, designed by Krista Kim, for half a million dollars.” TIME Magazine even created a series of digital covers and Jack Dorsey of Twitter sold his first tweet as an NFT for $2.9 million last week. The implications are widespread as cryptocurrency gains influence and power to become a mainstream way to invest digitally. Last week, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) shared the results of the February Architecture Billings Index (ABI), which hit a whopping 53.3, an increase of 8.4 points from January and the first time the ABI has trended positively since February of 2020. “Hopefully, this is the start of a more sustained recovery. It is possible that scores will continue to bounce above and below 50 for the next few months, as recoveries often move in fits and starts,” said AIA chief economist Kermit Baker, Hon. AIA. “Beyond the encouraging billing data, architecture employment added 700 new positions in January and has now regained 45% of the jobs that were lost since the beginning of the pandemic.”
