Last week was World Photography Day, an annual celebration of the art, craft, science and history of photography. Images are powerful for storytelling and when it comes to architecture, they “guide us through the context and backstage of the moment, eternalizing the process.” ArchDaily takes readers on a journey from the first recorded image on paper from French inventor Joseph Nicephore Niepce through the techniques that developed in the 19th and 20th centuries, which led to the iconic images captured by Lewis Hine during construction of the Empire State building and later photographers Marcel Gautherot and Iwan Baan.

Work is underway on a three-year project that will transform the existing New Orleans Harrah’s Casino on the edge of the historic French Quarter. A brand-new 340-room luxury hotel will rise above a new “valet porte cochere” within the current footprint of the casino. The entire interior will be renovated and the casino-hotel will be rebranded as Caesar’s New Orleans. MillerClapperton will fabricate and install 22,400 square feet of Metal Composite Material for the project.

Club Med has released its list of the top 10 happiest destinations in the world. Based on data from the 50 most visited tourist destinations, the cities were ranked in various areas such as crime, safety, spa and wellness centers and pollution among others, plus the overall happiness of the individual cities on a scale of 0-100. Three U.S. cities earned a spot on the list including Las Vegas, New Orleans, and San Francisco. The No. 1 happiest travel destination went to Bali, Indonesia.
