ASHRAE is taking a new approach to its flagship commercial building energy standard with future updates to ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1 now including a companion publication focused on reducing operational greenhouse gas and carbon emissions. This new document is in response to a growing demand for clearer pathways to lower building emissions.

Thomas Hospital is adding a new four-story patient towner in response to Baldwin County’s continued growth. The 91,000-square-foot tower will include 25 medical-surgical beds, an on-call physician and employee parking area, as well as space to accommodate future growth and expansion. For this project, MillerClapperton is fabricating and installing 1,960 square feet of Metal Composite Material (MCM) panels, and 1,600 square feet of Bladescreens.

During one of my business classes in college, I heard the term open-book management for the first time. I was actually assigned to give a presentation on it.

The funny part was that I’d already seen it in practice for years.

My dad, Ted S. Miller, and his original business partners were practicing it long before I knew there was a name for it.

Since construction projects are inherently risky undertakings, a well-written construction contract needs to define the scope of the work and allocate risk to protect participants in the event of nonperformance or defective work.
