Copper is one of the most valuable of building materials due to its versatility and long usable life. It’s also a functional material thanks to its antimicrobial properties and resistance to corrosion, making it highly desirable for both interior and exterior applications. Over the past decade, the Copper Development Association has tracked the use of copper in the building construction and renovation market. During that time, copper has gone from predominately roofing to a 50/50 split between roofing and wall cladding. As more designers look to sustainable materials, copper’s popularity has grown, but how does it compare on cost? Keep reading for a comparison of copper to other metals, how it’s priced, and how it’s helping meet sustainability standards.

College of the Holy Cross is building a new recreation and wellness center in place of the campus’s 72-year-old Field House. The 52,000-square-foot, three-story facility will also offer more recreational space and services than the previous Field House. Among the new amenities will be sports courts, a golf simulator, and a suspended running track. For this project, MillerClapperton is fabricating 2,154 square feet of Metal Composite Material totaling 142 panels.

Offices are no longer being built in locations convenient to the company’s decision-makers, but rather located geographically to appeal to younger people, and perhaps more importantly, they are being created to provide an office environment appealing to that group. Designing for the next generation is one trend architecture and design experts are seeing in the industry, and particularly in Atlanta.
