A few months ago, we shared Architectural Records’ Top 300 list of architecture firms, but this week, we’re taking a closer look at our local market. Based on gross architectural revenue for 2018, Atlanta Business Chronicle has ranked the metro area’s Top 25 architecture firms. Ranked first is Cooper Cary Inc. with 99 registered architects in Atlanta, followed by NELSON Worldwide, and tvsdesign. The original building on the corner of 17th and L Street, which was constructed in 1974, was demolished to accommodate a new, 12-story office building located in Washington DC’s Central Business District. The 154,000 square-foot project will feature ground floor retail, four stories of below-grade parking, in addition to amenities like a fitness center and rooftop terrace. Set to open this summer, MillerClapperton is fabricating and installing more than 10,000 square feet of Metal Composite Material and more than 4,000 square feet of Stainless Steel, plus architectural louvers.

There is no doubt that technology is transforming architecture and design, and there is no better example of this than the new Kendeda Building on the Georgia Tech campus. Technology is not only transforming the way architects design buildings, but also how they work with clients and even contractors, as was demonstrated throughout all phases of the project’s life cycle. The design team was able to take advantage of sophisticated tools and technology throughout the design and build, which are typically more costly upfront, but also reduce mistakes and change orders later.
