Welcome to the MillerClapperton Friday5 e-newsletter where you will stay up to date on the latest industry news and design trends, as well as what we are working on here at MillerClapperton in 5 quick points!

#1 WHAT ARCHITECTS SHOULD BE GOOD AT

They say you don’t know what you don’t know, but are you aware of what you do?  ArchDaily’s latest article looks at six skills you learned as an architect that you probably aren’t even aware.  One we often overlook, but use every day is ‘soft skills’.  There is a lot of juggling that happens in the AEC industry and this skill is utilized more than we realize.  “Architecture is as much about negotiation and integration as it is about creation.”  There are clients, builders, and even specialists who are a part of important conversations happening throughout all stages of a project.  Read about more skills and what architects should be good at here.

#2 INTEGRATED GREEN CODE

In an effort to motivate business professionals and policymakers alike to adopt better, greener building strategies that would ultimately help them implement LEED and achieve higher performance in sustainability, a new, International Green Construction Code (IgCC), known as the 2018-IgCC, was released last month.

The unified green building code joined together two industry associations, the International Code Council (ICC) and ASHRAE, who merged their respective high-performance building programs, the IgCC and ASHRAE 189.1, Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings.  Read more about the new code and how it’s expected to impact the metal building industry here.

#3 WORLD CAPITALS OF ARCHITECTURE

A new initiative called “World Capitals of Architecture” was recently launched by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA).  The initiative seeks to create a “synergy between culture and architecture in an increasingly urbanized world.”  Cities that are ultimately designated as World Capitals of Architecture will become a global forum for discussion on the world’s most pressing challenges.  Click here to read more about this special collaboration.
