Metal Construction News is celebrating 36 years of the Project Excellence Awards, formerly known as the Building and Roofing Awards, which recognizes the great work being done in the field. Project submissions were judged among six categories, with Metal Craftmanship being a new category this year. City of Hope Northeast Parking Structure in Duarte, California earned the top spot with the Grand Award, while a MillerClapperton project, The Works Parking Garage (pictured above) in Atlanta, GA earned a Judges Award. The Conservation Center for Wildlife Care, which will have multiple buildings once complete, is operated by the Peninsula Humane Society and the Society for the Prevention and Cruelty of Animals (SPCA). Located on a 170-acre site just outside of San Jose, CA, the Conservation Center, which is funded by Oracle founder and tech billionaire Larry Ellison, will be a place where “nature’s humbler creatures, including bugs, snakes and salamanders” can have their broken wings mended and hides healed. About 8,500 animals are expected to receive medical care at the center each year and MillerClapperton will fabricate 4,900 square feet of Metal Composite Material for the project.

Quay Quarter Tower (QTT) was declared the World Building of the Year 2022 at the annual World Architecture Festival, which was held in Lisbon this year. The 3XN designed project stands 206 meter tall and is located near Sydney’s famed Opera House. The office building is arranged as a vertical village of “five stacked shifting volumes” with a sustainability strategy that involved upcycling the existing tower.
