20 winners have been announced for Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) Best of the Best Projects Competition. The process included 100 construction industry experts selected by ENR judges at various stages over the course of a year. Projects eligible for consideration were completed between Maty 2021 and May 2022 and represent the “pinnacle of design and construction achievement in their respective categories from across the U.S.” More than 600 teams submitted their best work to 10 regional Best Projects competitions and winners were selected for 18 various categories, plus special awards for ‘Excellence in Safety’ and ‘Excellence in Sustainability’.

At the Southeast corner of Howell Mill Road and 14th Street, “The Interlock” is a new mixed-use project that offers 200,000 square feet of office space, 90,000 square feet of retail, more than 300 apartments, and a 165-room hotel called ‘The Bellyard’. The upscale hotel is operating under a franchise agreement with Marriott International, Inc. under the Tribute Portfolio brand. The hotel features a signature restaurant and bar, 5,500 square feet of meeting/event space, a fitness center, an outdoor terrace with skyline views of Atlanta, as well as a rooftop swimming pool. MillerClapperton fabricated and installed 5,000 square feet of Metal Composite Material and 2,700 square feet of Profiled Single Skin for this project.

According to a new report from the American Institute of Architects (AIA), nonresidential construction spending could see a slow down in 2024. Despite picking up momentum at the end of 2022, construction spending will moderate throughout 2023, but leading economic forecasters predict a drop looking ahead to next year. “The U.S. economy will continue to face serious challenges as we move through 2023, dampening the construction outlook,” says AIA chief economist Kermit Baker, Hon. AIA, PhD. “However healthy architect and contractor project backlogs should ease the negative impact of an economic slowdown.”
