IN THIS WEEK’S FRIDAY5

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recently released its annual list of the top 10 states for LEED green building, who collectively completed  1,171 certified projects in 2020. LEED continues to be the world’s most widely used green building program, which was created by the USGBC to set standards and define best practices for high-performing, healthy, green buildings. Leading this year’s list is Massachusetts with just over 19 million square feet and 76 projects certified, followed by Washington, Illinois, Colorado, and New York, who round out the top five.

“In 2020, LEED green building was not limited to a single part of the county and reflects progress across east, west, south and Midwest regions. Of note is that nearly 50% of the projects in the top 10 states achieved LEED Gold, one of the highest levels of certification, indicating a commitment to high performance.” Click below for the complete top 10 list by state, as well as the top 10 states for LEED professionals in 2020.
