#1 USGBC ANNOUNCES TOP 10 STATES FOR LEED
Howard Hughes Medical Institute | Ashburn, VA

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) released its annual list of the top 10 states for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for 2017.  The criteria for making this sustainable design list is based on states in terms of LEED-certified square feet per resident. 

Massachusetts, Georgia, New York, and Maryland are amongst some of the top states listed.  Click here to read the article by Building Design and Construction and to view all top 10 states. 
 


#2 HOW TO BE A TECH SAVVY ARCHITECT



The architecture industry involves multiple aspects of sharing and presenting documents, files, and information with others.  Mastering the art of technology is crucial in today’s work environment, especially in the design industry.  A few of the most common aspects are file sizes and types, downloading, hyperlinks, and permissions.

#3 FASCINATING ABANDONED BUILDINGS



We are all accustomed to the architectural photography of brand-new, shiny, buildings in our line of work, but have you ever wondered what these buildings look like when left abandoned for years?  Photographer, Matthias Haker has created a collection dedicated to these forgotten buildings.

#4 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

The Learning Academy at Wellstar 
The WellStar Learning Academy in Marietta, GA partnered with Bright Horizons to provide quality childcare for infants to elementary school children.  This three-story building is 32,200 square feet, and cost approximately $9.5 million. 

MillerClapperton fabricated and installed over 2,200 square feet of Metal Composite Material and 6,400 square feet of High Pressure Laminate to complete the contemporary exterior of the Learning Academy.

#5 CURRENT PROJECT

SAS Institute Inc. Building A
SAS Institue Inc. is creating its 24th building on its vast campus in Cary, North Carolina.  This nine-story, 420,000 square foot structure, will contain more than 1,000 offices, 44 conference rooms, two auditoriums, and a cafe with seating for 700 customers. 

MillerClapperton contributed over 70,000 square feet of Metal Composite Material and nearly 5,000 feet of louvered sunscreens (BladeScreens) to this project.  SAS has approximately 5,600 employees located in the Cary headquarters and hopes to add even more jobs once this project is complete in early 2019.
