There are a wide range of products on the market that claim to be Metal Composite Material or MCM, but how can designers be sure they are using what’s best for their project? The age-old question of ‘what’s in a name?’ can be misleading since MCM has come to mean so many things. Rather than relying on the name alone, there are several important questions to consider, such as whether the product/system is supported by testing and whether or not there is a labeling program in place. 

Product labeling goes beyond a name on the back of a panel. Labeling ensures quality compliance with the stated performance requirements, and conformance to the code. To help you navigate the meaning behind these labels, the Metal Construction Association has put together a whitepaper that goes in-depth on MCM labeling and makes sense of Section 1406 of the International Building Code.

The River Landing Shops and Residences are under construction in the “health district” along the Miami River, west of downtown Miami. The project includes 25- and 23-story towers for 528 rental apartments, as well as office space. There will also be a building for retail shopping that has been enlarged to reach seven stories and is expected to open early this year. MillerClapperton is fabricating more than 53,000 square feet of Metal Composite Material for the project.
