Maria-Cristina Florian’s ArchDaily article not only reviews the evolution of architecture but also looks ahead to the highly anticipated projects set to open in 2024. Among these, Paris is gearing up for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, with various infrastructure developments in progress. The reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral, nearly completed after fire damage, marks a significant moment. The projects for the upcoming year cover diverse scales and programs, featuring restoration and expansion works, such as OMA’s Museo Egizio in Turin and Palmer Art Museum at Penn State University. Indigenous community collaborations, like Snøhetta’s Čoarvemátta in Northern Norway, and environmentally-conscious designs, including Studio Gang’s Hotel in the United States, add to the anticipation.
We are proud to announce that the new Palmer Art Museum at Penn State, USA, made the top 21 list. MillerClapperton handled the fabrication and installation of MCM material. The 73,000-square-foot complex, scheduled to open on June 1, 2024, boasts an almost completed structure in newly released images. Doubling gallery space to house over 10,000 pieces, the design encompasses 20 galleries, new educational and event spaces, a museum store and café, along with a sculpture path and outdoor terraces, further contributing to the architectural excitement of the upcoming year.

Eduardo Souza explores the concept of referential of movement, a fundamental concept in physics, that can be analogously applied to architecture. Souza contends that just as an observer’s perspective influences their interpretation of motion, individuals’ cultural, emotional, and physical backgrounds shape their unique interactions with built spaces. Drawing parallels between movement reference in physics and architectural experiences, the article suggests that specific materials and design elements can create dynamic façades that adapt to diverse viewpoints. These versatile façades not only enhance aesthetic appeal but also contribute to energy efficiency and thermal insulation. Souza presents various products as starting points to showcase the range of options available for designing adaptable and changeable building façades.
