This week, engineers Chris Reutlinger and David Altfeld are talking about substrates, what they are, what types there are, and how we use them. There is often confusion about what they are, but more simply, it’s what connects our panels back to the building. We run into different scenarios when we do projects, such as cold-form framing, steel structures, metal stud framing covered by sheathing, and even concrete framing, and each of these different materials have different tolerances. In this video, we discuss how we construct and build those layers from the panel, to our extrusions, back to either the wall, metal studs, or concrete, etc. to complete the wall assembly.

Tower 4, also known as the Advance Auto Parts Tower will soon join the North Hills mixed-use district in Raleigh’s new Midtown. The 20-story building will integrate parking and office space into the district’s unique combination of live, shop, play and stay venues. The tower’s striking glass geometry comprises 11 levels of office space and a well-appointed amenity level, as well as a generous ground floor entry plaza. For this project, MillerClapperton is fabricating and installing 11,600 square feet of Metal Composite Material, plus 5,280 square feet of Single Skin and 1,400 square feet of Plate Aluminum.
