#1 2018 CONSTRUCTION ECONOMY

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Chief Economist Anirban Basu has predicted stability for the construction industry’s economy and expanding nonresidential construction spending in 2018.

“For now, there is plentiful momentum,” said Basu.  “A recent reading of the Conference Board’s Index of Leading Economic Indicators suggest that the U.S. economy will enter 2018 with substantial momentum.  Corporate earnings remain healthy.  Global growth is accelerating.  Consumers are upbeat.  All of this suggests that the construction recovery that began in earnest in 2011 may have a few more birthdays ahead.”

You can read Basu’s full 2018 construction economic forecast here or listen to Basu talk about the forecast in a recent webinar

#2 CARS AND ARCHITECTURE

Design lovers are beholden by outstanding architecture, but what happens when cars enter the scene?  Including cars in photographs is an interesting tool that help the viewer understand the scale of the building.  The addition of automobiles can also create compositional relationships and bring a unique element to the photograph as a whole.  ArchDaily features ten such photos in their Best Photos of the Week.  To see more photographs from notable photographers, click here.
