First impressions are everything and that same notion can be applied to buildings. Yes, there are interesting shapes and layers that articulate design, but what truly makes an impact is the façade itself. It’s typically the first point of contact a person will have with a structure. Significant to a building’s overall success: it is the skin of the edifice that will come under judgment before most other aspects of design.

Chemical manufacturer Ingevity Corp. has expanded its presence in North Charleston by building a new global corporate headquarters near its current operations. The 110,000-square-foot building is located near the Garco Mill site, a mixed-use project. The new headquarters house the company’s leadership, business, non-technical support functions, and business development teams. MillerClapperton fabricated and installed 21,700 square feet of Metal Composite Material and 350 square feet of Profiled Single Skin for the project, which opened its doors in 2020.

Metal Architecture recently announced the winners of its 2022 Metal Architecture Design Awards. This year’s winners represent a variety of great projects in the metal construction industry and showcase exciting uses of metal that take design to the top of the class. This year’s Grand Award was given to Lone Oaks Farm Hunter Education Center in Middleton, TN and pictured above is the College of Life Science at Kuwait University, which earned the top spot in the ‘sustainable’ category.
