We’re talking about copper and it’s more in demand than ever as a building material thanks to its unique aesthetic and durability. But perhaps most importantly, “copper can be recycled infinitely, practically without losing its properties.” This is a key factor to consider as the demand for metals such as aluminum, copper, lithium and others are only expected to increase into the future. Not only is copper recyclable, when it is exposed to the elements, it develops a greenish patina that offers a layer of protection that keeps the inner part intact. A renovation is underway for the existing Days Inn located in the heart of downtown Missoula, MT. The four-story building will soon become The Wren, a boutique hotel featuring 73 one-of-a-kind guestrooms that will showcase artwork painted by local artists. The space is designed with the Missoula traveler in mind and the ground floor will offer a retail experience for guests and visitors to downtown. MillerClapperton is fabricating 2,000 square feet of Fiber Cement material for the project, which is expected to open this winter.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) recently announced six winning projects for the 2021 Healthcare Design Awards. The awards showcase the best of healthcare building design, healthcare planning, and healthcare design-oriented research. Featured above is the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center designed by SmithGroup, which was awarded in the “Built – More than $25 million” category. California is the state with the highest population and also the fifth biggest economy in the world.
