Renovations have typically accounted for 30% of all construction, but an interesting shift is underway that’s altering the construction landscape. For the first time in 20 years, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) May Architectural Billings Index reported that reconstruction project billings now exceed new construction. AIA Chief Economist Kermit Baker, Hon. AIA, Ph.D. confirms that “we are going to move toward an increased share in reconstruction and a decreased share in new construction.” So, what is driving this interest and how can metal wall retrofits contribute? Potomac Shores Middle School located in Prince William County opened to students this past Fall. Situated along River Heritage Boulevard, the school helped relieve near-overcrowding at several area schools with capacity for 1,450 students. The three-story, 197,954 square-foot middle school also has an 800-seat auditorium, a secure courtyard, labs, group activity rooms, and extended learning areas for project-based learning and group work. For this project, MillerClapperton fabricated and installed 25,900 square feet of Metal Composite Material.

Archtizer has announced the 100 finalists for the 3rd Annual One Photo Challenge, which is architecture’s biggest photography competition.
