Summer heat has already hit the Western U.S., with temperatures soaring into triple digits due to a large heat dome affecting states like California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, putting around 27 million people at risk and increasing wildfire hazards. In response, the construction industry has implemented comprehensive strategies to protect workers from extreme heat. These measures include creating heat illness prevention plans, educating teams on heat safety, adjusting work schedules, setting up cooling stations and hydration zones, and providing regular breaks in shaded areas. Emphasizing the importance of acclimatization, experts highlight that most heat-related injuries occur in the first week of exposure, making education and preparation crucial for worker safety.
