There’s so much to see and experience that you don’t need to be an architect or a history buff to appreciate them either. From historic districts to towering skyscrapers, there are plenty of cities worthy of your admiration, but some are more well known than others for their architectural prowess. Thrillist has compiled a list of nod-worthy American cities that are ranked as the most design-friendly in the country. Colors strongly influence the sensations we feel in an environment and can be used to influence a user’s behavior. Beyond strictly aesthetic preferences, certain colors offer different meanings, but “color doesn’t depend only on light and the environment, but also the perception we have of it.” There are countless studies on the theory of colors, but one author and amateur artist, Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, pointed out that identification of tones is subjective, but the effects are universal. Last week, Construction Executive Magazine and Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC) held a webinar featuring ABC chief economist, Anirban Basu, that focused on how the recent pandemic has rocked a nearly invincible economy, wreaking havoc on the construction industry, and how the current recession might dovetail into prospective future growth. He helped listeners grasp the impact of the pandemic, inflation, employment, and construction spending. He also answered questions from attendees such as positive impacts of COVID-19 on the economy, how a change of administration would impact the economic outlook, which markets will struggle, and with the “new normal” of social distancing, is there a significant trend in the retooling of office space? If you missed it and you’d like to hear more from the mid-year forecast, click below.

Recommendation: Shop Talk with Melissa Baker of the USGBC
Interview By: Snips Magazine

Melissa Baker, senior vice president of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) shares how the organization’s LEED ratings are driving a leaner, more sustainable building process. She says that “green building” and “integrated project delivery” are two of the most popular terms in the skilled trades today. “LEED encourages an integrative design approach, which requires getting different stakeholders and diverse perspectives at the table together to align on sustainability goals,” says Baker. She also discusses when buildings with LEED ratings really increased and why, when LEED will become the rule for all communities, and how the LEED system has changed the way buildings operate.
