#1 AIA EXPO 2018

If you couldn’t attend last week’s AIA Expo 2018, we have you covered with highlights from the good, the best, and the ugly thanks to the Architect’s Newspaper.  More than 800 building product manufacturers revealed their latest products during the two day event.  Among the newest materials and technological advancements, there was a selection of beautiful architectural products and useful building solutions worth telling you about, including Bowtie terracotta cladding from Palagio shown above.  See more from the Expo here.

#2 HIDDEN ARCHITECTURAL GEMS

This week marked the summer solstice, which means it’s officially summer and also the most popular time for a vacation or break from work.  While folks are busy making their plans for trips to iconic architectural landmarks, there are some pretty amazing, yet underrated structures that too often go unnoticed.  ArchDaily has compiled a list of must-see, hidden gems that should be added to your vacation plans.  See more here

#3 WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES

Can metal roofs decrease the risk of fire when lighting strikes?  The Metal Construction Association takes a deeper look at this question in their latest update to the Technical Bulletin titled ‘Lightning Strikes and Metal Roofing’.  It’s the perfect time to bring attention to such an important topic as this week is Lightning Safety Awareness Week.  The bulletin explores whether or not metal roofs attract lighting strikes more often than other types of roofing materials and if the presence of a metal roof could actually be beneficial if and when a lighting strike takes place.  Read more here.
