Higher education analysis firm QS Quacquarelli Symonds recently released the 2021 edition of its annual QS World University Rankings. The research analyzed nearly 14,000 individual university programs from 1,440 universities across 85 locations around the world. They were ranked by subject list along with 50 other areas of study, and after careful analysis, the results were compiled to reveal the very best of universities across the world with architecture schools. “The subject-based rankings consider each school/program’s academic reputation and employer reputation as well as its research impact.” Topping the list this year, and for the past several years is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by University College London (UCL), and Delft University of Technology. The Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood is undergoing a 50,000-square-foot expansion. The centerpiece of the addition is a 400-seat, theatre-in-the-round, which is quite rare among Chicago’s existing performing arts spaces. With only six rows of seating, the large but intimate layout brings the audience closer to the stage. The facility will also provide new educational amenities, rehearsal space, improved accessibility, and social areas including a wine bar and sidewalk cafe once completed. MillerClapperton will fabricate 1,700 square feet of Metal Composite Material for the project.

Over the past year, we’ve heard a lot about migration from the city to the suburbs amidst growing numbers of employees now working from home as a result of COVID-19. With the freedom to work from anywhere and as a measure of safety and wellbeing, some news stories went so far as to claim that cities were dead. According to ArchDaily, there is an interesting shift taking place, “and its happening fast – people are returning to cities almost as suddenly as they once left them.” It’s still true however that some city residents now favor a long-term future in the suburbs, but its still too early to tell how long this change will last. “While the grass might literally be greener in the suburbs, there’s something about living and working in a city that seems to draw people back in.”
