IN THIS WEEK’S FRIDAY5

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) announced the finalists of the 2020 Top Workplaces awards this past Sunday. Nearly 3,000 companies were nominated and of that group, 285 businesses ultimately participated in a workplace survey. The survey measured 15 drivers of engaged cultures that are critical to the success of any organization: including alignment, execution, and connection, to name a few.

Through the culmination of feedback collected through the survey, 150 businesses were named as finalists, including MillerClapperton. For the fifth consecutive year, our company was recognized as a Top Workplace in the Atlanta Metro area and we were ranked #52 of 63 mid sized businesses. From early settlers to modern times, these structures speak to the contexts in which they were built and reflect the wishes of their inhabitants. Efforts have been made over the decades to document the rich history of architecture in this country, and through an investigation by NetCredit, a list of the oldest buildings in each of the 100 main cities in the U.S. has been compiled.

With Spring right around the corner, it seems like a good time to talk about the coldest place on earth, right? Since the fifth-largest continent was first circumnavigated by James Cook in 1773, the landscape has been sought after by scientists, governments, and explorers, whether for research or exploitation. While it would be understandably difficult to build in such a harsh climate, the architectural scene is beginning to heat up. Click to see how these new structures are facing temps of 60 degrees below farenheit.

Recommendation: 10 Architecture Movies Every Architect Should Watch
Compiled By: Arch20

In last week’s Friday5, we shared how architecture played an important role in telling the story in the Oscar-winning film Parasite, supporting the notion that architecture really is the scenery of the cinema. Arch20 has compiled a list of ten, must-see films where architecture plays a key role in the storytelling or forms the background of the stories of the people producing it, the architects. The list explores classics such as Blade Runner and more modern-day films, such as The Infinite Happiness, that spotlights the work of Danish architect, Bjarke Ingels.
