Designations from the United National Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) are often sought after by cities across the globe, particularly for sites of historical significance. These World Heritage Sites as they are called, ensure the protection and preservation of such unique and special places. There is a lesser known designation, but equally intriguing, which is ‘Design’.

UNESCO has identified 15 ‘Cities of Design’ that “place creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their development plans.” It’s not only about urban spaces, but also about the things that fill the space and enhance the quality of life for people, in addition to being environmentally sustainable. Included in the release is Abstract: The Art of Design that features “the most creative designers” from various fields. The series was launched back in 2017 with the aim of demonstrating how design influences all aspects of our lives. We’ve mentioned this one a couple times, because it really is THAT good and now it’s free sans Netflix subscription.
