#1 AWARD-WINNING PHOTOS CAPTURE BEAUTY OF ARCHITECTURE

The Siena International Photo Awards is an annual contest with some of the highest international participation.  The 2018 edition received nearly 48,000 images from amateur and professional photographers from 156 countries worldwide.  The winning entries were recently unveiled and the “Architecture and Urban Spaces” category winners offered a wide range of subjects, locations, and perspectives.  Coinciding with the announcement of winners is the launch of the “Beyond the Lens” exhibition that will run through December 2nd in Siena.  If you can’t attend in person, see more here.

#2 ASK THE PANEL GUYS | EPISODE 5

What is the proper material thickness to specify for Metal Composite Material (MCM)?  You may already know that 4mm is the architectural industry standard thickness, but do you know which other thicknesses are not recommended and why?  Yes, 3mm, 6mm, and even 8mm are available, but they all have more negatives than positives.  Click here to watch this week’s video, as president Zeke Miller offer 6 reasons why you should not specify 6mm MCM.  And, don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel so you’ll be the first to know when a new video is posted.

#3 NONRESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY

According to the 2019 Construction Outlook presented by Dodge Data & Analytics Chief Economist Robert Murray, total construction starts are expected to remain flat at $808.3 billion in 2019.  The data demonstrates a continued economic expansion, but there’s some evidence of deceleration.  Despite this conclusion, construction work occuring in 2019 should stay close to the advanced levels achieved during the last few years, and there are no signs of a collapse in building activity.  Click here to read more from the report.

#4 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

ECHO Brickell
ECHO Brickell is a boutique, residential high-rise in the epicenter of Miami’s fastest growing metropolitan neighborhood, located on the coveted East side of Brickell Avenue.  The 60-story building has a sleek and slender design, which is quickly becoming the crown jewel of Miami real estate.  Despite its size, there are only 180 units with 1 to 4 bedroom layouts; all with spectacular views.  For this project, MillerClapperton fabricated 10,273 square feet of Metal Composite Material panels.

Location: Miami, FL
Material: Metal Composite Material
Product: Alucobond
General Contractor: John Moriarty & Associates

#5 CURRENT PROJECT

The Highline at Union Market
This Spring, we shared with you that we were starting work on the Highline, a mixed-use development in Washington, DC.  Above are progress pictures showing the installation of more than 50,000 square feet of material, including 32,850 square feet of Metal Composite Material panels.  Designed by Eric Colbert & Associates, the modern-industrial design integrates warehouse style windows and framed glass cubes.  Other unique elements include materials reminiscent of rail cars, and steel columns that echo the riveted steel supports of a nearby railroad underpass.

Location: Washington, DC
Material: Metal Composite Material & Single Skin
Product: Reynobond, Fabral
General Contractor: Clark Construction Group, LLC
Architect: Eric Colbert & Associates
