BuiltWorlds recently released its 2024 Tools, Equipment and Robotics Benchmarking Report, which looks at user survey data on category-specific technology adoption and usage. According to the report, while the construction industry has been slow to adopt robotic solutions, there has been considerable progress in certain areas, with one provider coming out on top.
“The integration of advanced tools, equipment, and robotics represents a significant leap toward modernizing and streamlining operations within the AEC industry,” wrote BuiltWorlds Research Analyst Audrey Lynch, who authored the report. “This year, we saw the highest levels of adoption in monitoring robotics and service/labor robotics, two of the four main categories we’ve identified in construction robotics.”

Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, IN, is undergoing a renovation and expansion that will increase its capacity from 500 to 1,200 students. The school, which hadn’t been updated since it was built in the early 1960s, was causing challenges for both students and teachers.
The renovation and expansion includes the construction of 38 new classrooms, two art rooms, four Project Lead the Way rooms, a science lab, TV/radio studio, and an expanded student union and cafeteria. Additionally, the athletic facilities will be updated, and a new performing arts wing will be built, including a new auditorium, band room, choir room and other specialized spaces.
MillerClapperton fabricated 4,900 square feet of Metal Composite Material (MCM) for the project, which is opened this month.

Curious as to whether Seattle was as walkable as some people say, geographer Nat Henry published an interactive travel-time map that uses color to reveal the proximity of key destinations all over Seattle in February 2023. The map went viral and resonated with people well beyond Seattle, causing Henry to update the map, called Close, so users can explore the walkability, bike-ability or transit accessibility of any place in the United States. In this article, Bloomberg’s Laura Bliss talks to Henry about how he made the map and the surprising way people are using it.
