#1 FUTUREHAUS COMPETES IN DUBAI

We are excited to announce that MillerClapperton is supporting Virginia Tech students from the Center for Design in an upcoming international competition.  With donated material from Alucobond, we fabricated 72 metal composite material panels for the 2,000 square foot FutureHAUS Dubai.  The fabricated panels are designed as a shade element and will be situated along the roof-line of the cutting-edge solar home.  The students will ultimately compete against a total of 21 teams as the sole team from U.S. in this year’s Solar Decathlon Middle East.  To read more about our participation with this exciting project, click here.

#2 CELEBRATING WORLD ARCHITECTURE DAY

World Architecture Day, which is celebrated on the first Monday in October, was started by the Union International des Architects (UIA) in 2005.  The goal of this annual observance is to highlight and remind the world of architecture’s collective responsibility in designing the world’s future cities and settlements.  We consider ourselves lucky to be a part of the design community; having the opportunity to work with some of the country’s greatest architects who are pushing boundaries and shaping our region’s cities and towns.

One of the largest celebrations in architecture can be found in New York City this month as Archtober gets under way.  The month-long celebration features hundreds of events, tours, and exhibitions across the five boroughs.  If you can’t attend this year, but need some inspiration, ArchDaily’s editors have put together a compilation their favorite stories and projects to celebrate World Architecture Day 2018.  Read more here.

#3 AIA BILLINGS SEE GROWTH FOR 11TH MONTH

Architecture firm billings saw their eleventh month of consecutive growth following solid performance in August.  With an ABI score of 54.2, August was the second highest month of 2018 so far.  While the Northeast had the steepest decline in billings so far this year, architecture firms in the South continue to lead the healthy increase in design activity.  AIA Chief Economist, Kermit Baker, says “Nationally, growth across all building sectors remains solidly positive.”  To read more from the full report for August, click here.

#4 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

Schaeffler Group USA
Schaeffler Group USA is a global manufacturer of components for the industrial and automotive sectors with their U.S. headquarters based in Fort Mill, SC.  They recently expanded one of the plants on their campus and constructed a new administrative office building (pictured above).  The 64,183 square foot office building features open offices, conference rooms, and employee break rooms on the top two floors, with an additional 6,300 square feet of dining and servery areas on the first floor.  This space opens up to a landscaped plaza overlooking a natural wooded area.
