#1 The reMarkable Tablet – A Paper Alternative

“We’re far from the paperless ideal envisioned at the dawn of the desktop computing age, but paper and handwritten notes no longer play a central role in our lives. For some, this is a sadness. Taking pen to paper has its own charms, the smell of fresh paper, the tactile feel of the ink ball dragging across paper fiber, and pitfalls, ink-smudged fingers and palms, lost sheets and illegible writing  . . . With its nearly pencil-on-paper writing experience and excellent battery life, the reMarkable tablet could be a godsend for those who truly miss writing and doodling on paper.”

In his latest article, Mashable’s Chief Correspondent Lance Ulanoff takes a closer look at a new paper alternative, the reMarkable tablet. To read this article and discover an incredible tool for designers, architects, and those of us who simply take a lot of notes, follow the link.

#2 DESIGN WITH FINISHES IN MIND

Even if you have the selection of the finishes mastered, you must consider the nuances of each finish when designing your project.  Here are some additional things to keep in mind.

  • With the exception of 2-coat finishes, you should design with grain directions in mind.
  • Know the available material width.  In general, most finishes are available in a 62″ width but many of the Specialty Colors and Natural Metals are produced in smaller widths.
  • If multiple finishes are used on the project, be sure to properly label or hatch where each finish is located on the architectural drawings.

#3 FRAMING

Often the final team to visit any building site, it is not uncommon for cladding specialists to find and rectify imperfections, no matter how small. MillerClapperton is often tasked with providing a perfectly flat, plumb, and level façade, even in cases where a less than perfect substrate is provided. The photos above are a textbook example of this. Using a 3D scanning team and cutting-edge technology, as well as their experienced engineers and skilled installers, MillerClapperton is able to map out even the slightest imperfection on any project, allowing them to transform wavy or misaligned structures into perfectly straight and attractive framing.

#5 CURRENT PROJECT

Paraíso Bay
MillerClapperton has just completed the fabrication and installation of nearly 7,000 square feet of Reynobond MCM panels on the Paraíso Bay property in Miami, Florida. The color selection and tiered design of MCM panels on the canopy entrance creates a bold, herringbone pattern that extends into the reception area of the building. The Paraíso Bay tower reaches 55 stories tall and offers 10 different floor plans to residents. In Spring 2018, over 1,300 units will be available, along with tennis courts, swimming pools, playgrounds, state-of-the-art fitness center, marina, and a bayfront park.
