IN THIS WEEK’S FRIDAY5

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) reported last week that its Construction Backlog Indicator rebounded to 8.0 months in August, an increase of .2 months from July. The positive gains in new construction starts, jobs, and backlog provided a glimmer of hope for the industry, following a summer of worrisome trends as a result of the pandemic.

Nonresidential building starts rose 16% while nonbuilding construction jumped by 40%, according to Dodge Data & Analytics, and construction unemployment currently sits lower than the national average. Recommendation: Interview with Frank Gehry
Interview By: Architectural Digest
Architect Frank Gehry finally saw his vision completed for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial after 21 years of delays due to design negotiations between the architect’s team and the Eisenhower family. The memorial is located adjacent to the National Mall and depicts Eisenhower’s two historical roles, that of Army General and the 34th president of the United States. Gehry sits down with Architectural Digest to explain his design and how he collaborated with other artists on the project.
