The monthly Architecture Billings Index (ABI) from the American Institute of Architects fell just 1/10 of a point in July, marking the third straight month that billings have stabilized. According to AIA chief economist Kermit Baker, Hon. AIA, “New project work has been even stronger over this period. This suggests that design work may finally begin to increase over the coming months, although somewhat modestly.” Billings in the West increased by 1.0 point and billings in the South decreased by 1.6 points. By sector, July’s scores were mixed with commercial/industrial increasing 4.9 points while multifamily residential fell 2.0 points, and institutional feel 4.2 points.
